Introducing FusionDrive®, a gear and generator that create the smartest drive train combination available. FusionDrive® offers optimal availability by harnessing all the advantages of medium-speed wind power generation technology. It is compact in size and offers the lowest weight in the market.
FusionDrive® is the result of bringing together the world-class wind power technology of Moventas and The Switch. Moventas, one of the industry’s leading wind gear manufacturers, combined its latest gear solution with the proven medium-speed permanent magnet generator (PMG) of The Switch. This created an ingenious fusion of simplified structural design now known as FusionDrive®.
Medium-speed technology
FusionDrive® uses medium-speed wind power generation technology. The advantages of medium-speed technology have been proven for the highest possible availability and reliability in wind power generation. The use of medium-speed bearings eliminates the risk of smearing. The number of bearings is minimal, and there are no high-speed bearings. A common lubricant oil space provides a controlled environment for force transferring rolling components. A perfect alignment between the gear stages and the generator eliminates extra bearing forces or induced vibration.
Simplified structural design
The integrated drive train has a simplified structural design which boasts the lowest nacelle weight and thus improves total turbine cost effectiveness. By simplifying the overall structure, many of the problems associated with conventional technology have been eliminated. No slip rings, no rotor windings and no bearing currents add up to remarkably better reliability in rugged operation and extremely low cogging torque.
Compact size
The compact size of the complete drive train allows easier transport and assembly. Its scalable platform extends from 3 MW to offshore class – all in an onshore size.
