The Switch

Pertti Kurttila

Vice President, Supply chain

“Factory walls and persons are no limiting force.”

Pertti Kurttila has been positively surprised by the dynamic nature of The Switch since starting as Production Director at the end of 2007: “The growth of production has been exceptionally high! And as we move forward with our unique Model Factory concept, we will be able to increase production as needed and wherever customers want us to be located. Large volume production will not be a limiting factor, our concept allows us to be very flexible. Everything we do is well documented, and quality is built in all details.”

“I recognized that I had the right background from many years at ABB in various production and operation efficiency responsibilities in Finland and abroad. The Switch appealed to me because it was an opportunity to be involved from the start – and build the production strategy, logistics and procedures for world-class model factories in high power converters and electric machines,” Pertti says.

As he oversees production planning for the new Model Factories in both Vaasa and Lappeenranta, Finland, Pertti says that The Switch factories are busy ramping up from prototypes to zero-series – and now on to mass production.

Pertti Kurttila studied at the University of Jyväskylä in central Finland and graduated with a licentiate degree in physics. He began his career in the high-voltage laboratory in ABB. After that he participated in the new production ramp up, moving phase by phase through support, design, supply chain and on to the production processes. His 20 years of experience from such a wide scope of production understanding enabled him to be chosen to participate in an international ABB production team – and from there on to The Switch, where he has recently been named member of the Management team.
