The Switch

Vice President, Emerging businesses

“I like alternative energy – It’s exciting.”

Anders Troedson says that alternative energy is an extremely fascinating area. And working at The Switch has been very exciting. “Compared to most large companies, our company is much faster and uncomplicated in many different ways. Speed, among other factors, is part of our success,” he says. And the spirit of The Switch supports this, which is very important to him personally.

Anders brings a vast depth of knowledge to The Switch from his career in alternative energy technology. When he first started in Hudson, New Hampshire, in the beginning of February 2007, the company was very R&D driven. Today, the company has undergone substantial changes and Anders is now using his strengths to build the operation to work smoothly with partners and subcontractor manufacturing for VSGs, solar cells and fuel cells. “We are adapting our wind power technologies and integration for these other emerging business applications – and ramping up to become a major player in these areas as well,” he says.

Originally brought up and educated in Sweden, Anders Troedson graduated from Chalmers University in Gothenburg with a degree in electrical engineering. His first job was at ASEA Atom in Sweden. From there, he moved to Power Electronics within ASEA and then on to the ASEA Pulp and Paper Group. He worked with many different pulp and paper mills and also had an active role in building a pulp plant in Cameroon in Africa, which deepened his knowledge of paper machine drives and helped him to be appointed as Area Manager in the US and Canada for 2 years.

In 1983, ASEA started its drives operations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Anders was brought over to help the Pulp and Paper Group sell DC drives. He continued there in several management positions, even after ASEA became ABB, and always involving various drives applications. In 1995, Anders took over responsibility for ABB’s Power Electronics and under his direction, drives were introduced for power conversion in alternative energy. At the end of 2006, when the company restructured and the production line for fuel cell converters was moved to Canada, he joined The Switch.
