Attractive applications of PM machines

PM machines have been applied widely in automotive and IT industries, including in electric car motors and computer hard drive motors. They’re also used in everything from wind turbines to conveyor belts and milling machines to vessel propulsion systems.

Nearly all new wind turbine designs are based on PM machine technology. They not only help produce more energy annually but also cost less to maintain compared with conventional synchronous machines – helping to lower levelized cost of energy (LCOE).

Conveyor belts and milling machines demand high startup torque, torque control and speed. And PM machines provide exceptional torque handling capacity from zero speed through to the nominal speed and faster.

Meanwhile, some marine engine manufacturers already have permanent magnet shaft generators on their product portfolio; the variable speed shaft generator works as a motor and can provide additional power for propulsion. The technology delivers remarkable fuel savings and lowers emissions, which helps preserve the environment.
