Lappeenranta proud

Proud is the best way to describe our feeling! Our Large Drive Test Center is ready – and is one of the largest in the world to test large electric drive systems for renewable energy.

The Large Drive Test Center in Lappeenranta, Finland, is now fully operational and running factory acceptance tests for customers who want to push the boundaries for the biggest machines in the business.

In autumn 2018, Yaskawa Electric Corporation supported a significant multi-million-euro investment in the building of the large drive testing facility adjacent to the company’s current factory in Lappeenranta. The building started the following summer.

The goal is to provide a place for customers to verify their electric drives, now that equipment is getting larger the entire time and drives are becoming more powerful.

The 1,155 m2 factory expansion features a floor in the testing area that weighs approximately 1 million kilos. The thickness of the concrete foundation is over 2 meters. With its unique heavy-duty steel construction, the floor can hold the weight – and withstand all the forces and machine vibrations – up to 80 tons.

The floor is the heart of the testing center. It has a modern liquid cooling system and an electrical distribution center around it. The center is testing machines of 12 MW today and soon will be ramping up to testing up to 18 MW.

Now, our state-of-the-art testing center is providing answers to our clients – who are looking to switch to a greener future by electrifying the world.

It’s no wonder – we’re Lappeenranta proud!
